A Short Essay on the Gladio Double Preamp by Cornerstone Music Gear

Has it always been a dream of yours to re-create the music, the sound of artists such as Robben Ford and Eric Johnson?

There’s some good news for you!

Cornerstone has been innovative and created a wonderful piece that is the key to the beauty of the sound. And that is the Gladio Double Preamp. It is an amp that is definitely worth the wait and every penny that you will spend to get your hands on it.

Check out this YouTube video by Shawn Tubbs as he does an overview of this amp before we continue on with the article.

Note that this article was made using information of both the video posted above, as well as the website mentioned (and that is the official website of Cornerstone).

Now, initially, the design goal’s name was Dumble.

So, to be more informed about this piece of art, the Gladio is not simply an overdrive. Upon closer inspection, it a realistic tube-compression preamp that has the ability to take the sound into saturation but can still retain the response filled with rich touch and compression that is realistic.

Go for a Double Preamp!

One word: versatility. This amplifier has not one independent channel, but two, and they have totally different voices. And when mixed together, they give a variety of sounds.

What’s In It for Channel 1?

Inspired by songs such as Cannonball Shuffle by Robben Ford, this channel gives out a smooth and creamy sound. To help enhance the playing, there are round touch-sensitive responses and is really transparent. The controls (Gain, Tone, and Volume) are pretty self-explanatory and the toggle switched called COMP allows you to choose between the two contrasting compression levels.

What’s In It for Channel 2?

This one comes from the inspirational Sonny Landreth, and that’s just one to mention. It means that this gives out a special hard clipping sound. Again, same controls as the first channel and does not need an explanation, but there is a toggle switch that is called Jazz/Rock, and that needs no presentations either.

Versatility is the Name, And It’s Also the Game

In the very middle of the pedal, there is a special toggle that allows you to switch in between two modes. “S” meaning “Single”, and “D” meaning “Double”.

With the Single mode, it is only possible to use one channel at a time, meaning that if you press the footswitch of one channel, the other channel turns off. If you are in Double mode, it is possible to stack the two channels together to be able to reach a Dumble-esque sound.

If you would like to buy this item, best to purchase it from the official store of Cornerstone.

Enjoy the beauty of the music!
